Every Saturday I bring you a selection of photos that are united by a common theme. This week, in celebration of Hallowe'en, I've collected some photos that remind me of my favourite spooky tale: The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe.

MKendall combines several photos to make beautiful, dreamworld creations that are surreal and charming. I had a really tough time narrowing down my favourites to just four for this post!

Sharon Montrose Photographs
Sharon Montrose's portraits of animals taken in a studio setting are fascinating because they are so different from the standard photographs you normally see of animals. Removed from their natural habitat and placed in front of a stark, white wall, these creatures seem even more beautiful and interesting. And, yes, they are real, live animals.

ValeriaH Photography
ValeriaH's photographs are lit naturally which give them a soft, understated and quiet feel. I have always had a love of photographs that favour natural light and these are a beautiful example of what photographers can do with what nature provides.

mai autumn photo
When I first saw The Virgin Suicides I instantly fell in love with the dream-like aesthetic that Sofia Coppola had created, especially because it was so close to the way I pictured the Lisbon girls' world in my head when I read the book. When I came across mai autumn's photos I was struck by how wonderfully she had taken the influence of the film and made it her own in her beautiful photographs of suburbia in Upstate New York.

The Fabulous Life of Roux Toulouse
All the prints in the Etsy shop The Fabulous Life of Roux Toulouse are taken from the book of the same name by Ashlee Park and Kim Crenshaw. The settings are created using pictures of Roux himself which are then placed in hand-drawn scenarios, creating a wonderful series of whimsical situations that appeal to both adults and kids.

Lola's Room
Pastel colours prevail in the work featured in Lola's Room which give the photographs a delicate, gentle feel. There's something about these photos that remind me of a teenage girl's bedroom in the 1960s. And I mean that in the most complimentary way possible!
